1. Net Control stations are to call their assigned net at exactly 6:00pm local time. This is based on area and regional cycles for net liasons to be able to move traffic efficiently and get to other nets, especially if there is a large amount of traffic.
2. Begin by reading the current preamble and then calling for traffic and check-ins as listed.
3. Traffic takes precedence over all other communications, so get it relayed as soon as possible.
4. Stations requesting a sidebar, informal, or word with another station should be sent off frequency unless it's ten seconds or less.
5. Follow the format of the preamble.
6. All announcements must be amateur radio related and should be done during the proper announcement time, after checking in and asking to be listed on the announcement list. Impromptu announcements should not be done by NCS or check-ins, to keep the structure of the net intact.
7. Pause often as to let low power stations checking in to be heard and avoid doubling with them (no more than 3 seconds).
8. Keep chit chat and pleasantries to a minimum and do not repeat things that do not need to be repeated during a check-in. A check-in is not supposed to be a continual conversation back and forth.
9. Signal or repeater reports are acceptable but any other criticism is unacceptable and not in good amateur spirit. Remember what you say and do sets an example to new operators on what a traffic net is about.
10. Net Control Stations are responsible for their assigned day and to find a substitute NCS if unable to call the net.
11. NCS stations should make sure they do the best they can to have a full quieting signal into the repeater.
12. Music, television, and other background noises are a violation of part 97.
13. It is unacceptable for NCS’s to be operating in a moving vehicle, especially if they are the driver. Their safety and other people’s safety overrides all else.
14. If you are told your signal is not clear enough to continue the net you should relinquish the net to someone else. This report should only be accepted from, or supported by, one of the staff members. No one except the NCS and Staff makes the decision to switch to the other repeater. Listen to suggestions politely but it is your decision and only based on multiple stations having trouble with the repeater.
15. You should test your station by asking for a signal check before each session.
Your co-operation on these guidelines is appreciated and will help the net maintain a high degree of quality.
